Los Angeles Daily Journal: "Real estate lawyer acquitted of fraud-related charges"
The Los Angeles Daily Journal reported on the March 10 acquittal of Oren Tepper, a Los Angeles real estate lawyer represented by Louis J. Shapiro. A jury acquitted Mr. Tepper of all 14 fraud charges against him, accepting the defence that he had trusted information given to him by his father, who was ultimately convicted. Co-defendants in the case had pleaded guilty and reached agreements with the attorney general's office.
Speaking to the Daily Journal, Mr. Shapiro attributed the result in part to a focus group
assembled from respondents to a Craigslist advertisement, which he used to test and refine
his trial strategy. He framed the verdict as
a vindication of not only myself but… the justice system itself.
People v. Dan Tepper et al., LACBA484182 (L.A. Super. Ct., filed Sept. 3, 2020).
Attorney at Law Magazine: "Lou Shapiro On NBC's 'Trial & Error'"
Attorney at Law Magazine interviewed Lou Shapiro about his role as legal consultant to Trial & Error, the NBC courtroom comedy starring John Lithgow as a defendant accused of killing his wife, which debuted March 7, 2017.
Mr. Shapiro described how the role came about through his community announcements at temple services, and explained his approach to the work: bringing the writers and cast to court to observe real hearings, and keeping the show's procedure close enough to actual practice to hold up, while leaving room for the comedy to work.
